This year YWCA Halifax celebrates its 150th Anniversary. This event will kick off with their annual general meeting (AGM). A brand was required to not only mark this milestone but would become a sister mark to accompany all existing YWCA Halifax branding going forward.

Solution

Nova Scotia's provincial flower is the mayflower, commonly found throughout much of Atlantic Canada. These fragrant flowers are edible, and are robust, able to flourish in difficult soil.

Using the natural geometry of the mayflower, a five-petaled star, combined with sacred geometry, a structure was created utilizing the equilateral triangle as the building block, globally a prominent element of the YWCA brand, petals were constructed. These segments each symbolically represent the individuals and accomplishments of the organization over its existence, when combined cumulatively assembles the icon.

Each ‘petal’ are divided into 10 segments, divisible by 5/150, that accommodates the YWCA Halifax’s main colours. Five petals are combined to produce the mayflower. Wordmark/tagline compliments and supports the existing YWCA’s brand.

An explosion of inclusivity, and celebration of the 150th year for YWCA Halifax. Colourful, flexible, distinctive mark for this monumental occasion.

Frank at Orlando Media produces the very best. When I saw the final mockup, I was amazed that he saw our organization the way I see it. I love the YWCA and Frank helped us communicate this beautiful place to the rest of the world.
