Goodbye, Farewell and Amen, Creative Kick

A simple but effective idea that in this world of social media and isolation, they could foster an environment for collaboration.

On November 2nd, 2022, The Creative Kick (formally E3C East Coast Creative Collective) announced after more than a decade they will be closing shop.

I first learned about Creative Kick (E3C) back in 2012, a rag tag group of driven creatives wanting to bring a sense of community and solidarity to the city. A simple but effective idea that in this world of social media and isolation, they could foster an environment for collaboration. Something near and dear to my heart.

Goodbye & Thank you!

It has been an honour to hang out with so many amazing and talented creative people in Nova Scotia. We launched as the "East Coast Creative Collective" in 2012 and became the "Creative Kick" just before the pandemic.

All good things must come to an end, and we as organizers have had other priorities come up and felt it time to sunset this passion project.

But let it not be in vain! Continue to support each other and provide company for the creatively driven of Nova Scotia. Thank you for being a part of something special.

Public events were organized where creatives from all shapes and disciplines could come, socialize, share ideas, or just work amongst others. But unlike other organizations that offered the same at first glance, CK was not a networking group. This was not designed for marketing, nor for swapping business cards and resumes, THIS was a safe place to inspire and motivate.

If you wanted more from your practice, improve your skills, or just wanted to leave behind the creative vacuum of working alone this was the place. The ‘magic’ as they called it presented itself as monthly meetups, such as the ‘drink and draw’ which I attended a few in the early days while I was more mobile. Far more wholesome than it sounded, these events gathered the group at The Foggy Goggle, where tables were filled with creatives of all types, illustrators, animators, knitters, and filmmakers. All there to find comfort in others.

It is astonishing looking back at everything this group accomplished during its existence.

In addition, there were frequent artist talks, and portfolio review nights; a few I was lucky enough to be a part of. An open environment where one could bring their work in to discuss and critiqued by those more established in their fields.

It is astonishing looking back at everything this group accomplished during its existence. Powered by volunteers with a singular purpose of positivity to support Halifax’s visual arts scene. I could not let their passing go unacknowledged. So, wherever you are, take a moment to raise a glass and thank all these wonderful people for all they brought to the city.
