We have to build a city where youth will see themselves in the future
Fred Connors had a vision for Halifax: He wanted to turn HRM into the most desirable city for all Canadians to live and do business by 2020.
Fred Connors for HRM
For nearly 30 years, Fred has been a Halifax-based entrepreneur. In 2004, he purchased the vacant Scotiabank building on the corner of North and Agricola Street, where he launched his signature brand FRED. beauty food art. His arrival to the North End helped spearhead the renaissance of the neglected community, which was voted one of Canada’s best neighbourhoods in 2011.
He is founder of the Commons North Business and Cultural Association, Vice President of the North End Business Association and official Ambassador of the Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia. He partners with many organizations serving people in HRM including Adsum House, Leave Out ViolencE (LOVE), Family SOS, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and many others.
Fred can connect authentically with people in every community in HRM: He was raised in Dartmouth, comes from a long line of fisherman in East Dover, St. Margarets Bay and is surrounded by four generations of family in HRM. Today he and partner Joel Flewelling share their time between their homes in St. Margarets Bay and Halifax’s North End.
